In three separate informations identically worded except that each referred to a different offended party, Corazon Aquino was accused, before the Court of First Instance of Pangasinan, of the crime of grave oral defamation for having allegedly uttered in public, on or about June 4, 1954, words to this effect: "You, Merrera lawyers, are stealers . . . shameless . . . impolite." Three informations were filed on the theory that, as there were three lawyers bearing the surname "Merrera", three separate crime of defamation were committed.
