What the Constitution ordains in its avowed principle of the promotion of social justice 1 and the explicit mandate of protection to labor 2 was once again given concrete expression in a statute of recent date increasing the minimum wage. 3 Thus, for industrial establishments, a six pesos (P6.00) daily wage is now the law, a two-peso (2.00) increase. 4 In view of its explicit language, it would be difficult for a business firm so minded to escape its operation directly, whether its employees are paid on a daily or a monthly basis.
