RELOVA, J.:

Charged and convicted of the crime of murder by the then Court of First Instance of Palawan, the two (2) accused, Adriano Cañete and Jose Bilog, were both sentenced to the maximum penalty of death, and to pay jointly and severally the heirs of the deceased, Douglas Bilog, in the sum of P12,000.00 without subsidiary imprisonment in case of insolvency and to pay proportional costs.

The People's version of the facts is as follows:
