D E C I S I O N

PANGANIBAN, J.:

A judgment of conviction may be based on circumstantial evidence provided that, as in the present case, the proven circumstances constitute an unbroken chain that leads to no other logical conclusion than the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.

The Case

Emma dela Cruz[1] appeals the January 22, 1999 Decision[2] of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Quezon City, which convicted her and Roger Liad of robbery with homicide and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua. The decretal portion of the Decision reads as follows:

"WHEREFORE, premises considered, judgment is hereby rendered in this case...
