On January 17, 1956, at around 10:30 in the evening, the attention of Patrolman Restituto Villanueva was aroused by a crowd chasing a man in Echague Street, near Quezon Bridge, Manila. By the time Patrolman Villanueva caught up with the pursuers, the latter had already nabbed the man who was being pursued and who turned out to be Benjamin Galano y Carpio.
