QUISUMBING, J.:
On appeal is the decision[1] of the Regional Trial Court of Iloilo City, Branch 23, dated April 29, 1996, in Criminal Case No. 31423, finding appellant Ronaldo Ponce guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the crime of murder and sentencing him to suffer the penalty of reclusion perpetua, as well as to indemnify the heirs of the victim, Jaime Javellana, the sum of P71,250.00 as actual damages, P50,000.00 as indemnity ex delicto, and P30,000.00 as moral damages.
Appellant Ponce and his co-accused Luisito Librillo,[2] who is still at large, were initially charged with murder in an information dated February 8, 1988....
