This case is the third in the trilogy of cases that started with the 2000 case of Cuevas v. Muñoz,[1] which dealt with respondent Juan Antonio Munoz's provisional arrest as an extraditee, and the 2007 case of Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region v. Olalia, Jr.,[2] which resolved the question of Muñoz's right to bail as a potential extraditee.
